John McMahon, the retiring Chief Information Officer of the Los Angeles Police Department, recently joined public safety advisory and government relations firm Brooks Bawden Moore (BBM) as a vice president, following a distinguished 36-year career in law enforcement.
BBM has been a valuable member of the extended Lassen Peak team as the company has worked with America’s law enforcement communities to introduce the vision of handheld concealed weapon detection. Hatch Graham, Lassen Peak CEO, states, “Engaging with the top police and sheriff agencies across the nation requires guidance from qualified experts with vision to identify transformational technologies. Adding John to BBM strengthens what is already a premier group of public safety veterans.”
As LAPD’s CIO, McMahon spearheaded a groundbreaking technology modernization initiative, enhancing mobility and operational efficiency across the LAPD. Thanks to his leadership, the LAPD began transitioning from traditional methods to cutting-edge technologies like advanced mobile devices to enhance officer efficiency and community engagement. His leadership played a critical role in ensuring officers had access to innovative tools that strengthened public safety and strategic decision-making.
McMahon graduated from the West Point Leadership Program and the Major Cities Chiefs’ Police Executive Leadership Institute. His recent recognition as one of the 25 best leaders in law enforcement in 2025 underscores his forward-thinking vision and dedication to community safety.
In an interview with Police1, McMahon said, “In today’s environment, being a successful police chief anywhere in the country requires an understanding of how technology can transform police work. It’s a perfect match that significantly benefits both the police force and the community it serves.”
Congratulations to John and the entire BBM team.
